Abstract |
The acting white accusation is when one African-American accuses another African-American of being white, directly or indirectly. This accusation is known to cause a lot of anxiety in African-American teens. One of the possible reasons this occurs is the social pressure to confirm. Conformity is complying with the behavior of others or society standards based on real or imagined pressure. It is predicted that one who feels more internal pressure to confirm will also feel more anxiety due to the acting white accusation. In my study i will use multiple surveys and questionnaires to analyze 5 factors. These five factors are religion, conformity, the acting white accusation scale, racial identity, and ethnic identity. Religion will be compared to conformity, and the racial and ethnic identity scale will be compared to the acting white accusation as well as conformity. Overall, all these factors will show what influences conformity and how the influences one's feelings of anxiety due to the acting white accusation. |
