Dear Dr. Frank -
Enclosed clipping from Portland, Oregon may be of interest. My father sent them. It shows what is being done in grapes and how fast the business is expanding.
The balance is shifting very quickly to Vinifera grapes. You can feel some satisfaction [page 2] that your efforts now [pag..?]. People have listened and heard about you, [but it is?] very hard for them to admit they were wrong. All they do is to plant Vinifera grapes.
It was good to see you and talk again. Each time I learn more and John is also very helpful and teaches your principals -
In Ohio we have [problems?], [page 3] but we hope they will see from our experiments how well Vinifera grow[s]. They are watching closely.
We made no grafts last year because we [turned?] around about one acre. The vines seem to be doing better now. If you can spare a few vines it would be a big help to plant. We have 3000 feet trenched and ready but no vines, and this [page 4] summer we start our winery building since we will have enough crop to make some wine. Hopefully 500-600 producing vines this year and 2000 next year.
Whatever you can spare will be most helpful[,?]
[hoping?] to hear from you
My best to you and Mrs Frank.
Sincerely
A W Esterer
