Abstract |
Offering tutoring throughout the academic year, including the days leading up to midterms and finals, is both desirable to college students and beneficial to their performance. The following research was conducted in discovering whether or not students would be interested in Kent State University offering tutoring, in the form of an App, seeing as the school doesn’t already offer tutoring in any form during finals week. We approached the problem by conducting a study analyzing students habits for studying and whether they use current tutoring methods on campus. The study examined the degree of necessity for available tutoring during college finals through a survey conducted at the Kent State University, Main campus. Our survey concluded that students who do not currently utilize tutoring resources on campus, would be more inclined to receive tutoring if it was accessible through an app. We further examined the impact of tutoring on student performance to establish whether or not tutoring would be beneficial before taking their finals. Research from Micki M. Caskey, professor and doctoral program director in the graduate school of education at Portland State University, studied students who had scored in the near-passing range on either a language arts or mathematics aspect of a standardized test. Caskey had the students undergo tutoring and compared their performance from before and after. Results showed that both groups of student tutored in both subjects significantly outperformed a matched control group. |
