Calm Control
Calm Control is a smart wear garment. It is designed to help someone return their heart rate to an average pace and calm their breathing during a panic attack. Controlling the breath and bringing the heart rate down is the most effective way to stop a panic attack. Calm Control has devices to measure the heart and breath rate . During a panic attack, the heart rate increases by 15-20 beats per minute within a 60-90 second period. When a spike in heart rate is measured, the breathing regulator signals the user with a small vibration to inhale and exhale. The devices are located in the wrist cuffs for the most effective measurements. Fabrication of the garment has been designed to be soft and comfortable with a quilted texture.

Patient Face Mask Redesign
Our team has set out to solve the problems associated with the fit, discomfort and heat of a disposable facemask. We developed adjustable elastic straps that are easy and quick to put on, and secure once in place. This allows the user to have the comfort and security of a mask that ties behind the head, but with added ease of adjustability and simple donning and doffing. We used the geometry of the face to inspire lines for folding, pleating, and cutting. The resulting mask fits by folding around a nose with wide pleating horizontally around the mouth to expand for breathing. The shaping around the nose, as well as the curved design at the top of the mask keeps the mask in place while minimizing gaping and areas of tension on the face. The pleats ensure that the mask expands around the nose and mouth and not near the top border where it is meant to lay near the face. The nonpermiable fabrics used to prevent infection are necessary but often uncomfortable, so comfort is reliant on design innovation. The new design of the disposable face mask maintains the safety of the user of the mask, while maximizing comfort.

Redesign Chemotherapy Gown
Our team of designers commenced the design process by contemplating ways to ameliorate and make changes to the chemotherapy gown. First, we eliminated the shoulder and top sleeve, this process will cut down engendering cost and time, while keeping functionality in play. We added the pleats on the arm and shoulder, which will vent open for breathability and comfortability. Second, we integrated an elastic waistband that would emanate from the back towards the right side with velcro fused at the end. This idea was inspired by a closer of the baby diaper. The elastic waistband will give the person whoever is wearing its shape. Third, we added the rib knit around the neckline. Collar is 1 ½ width, sitting comfortably around the neck without the exasperation going on. At last, we put a pocket on the left side of the gown for functionality, durability, and aesthetic purposes. The pocket has a “U” shaped top with a small pen holder fused on top. The “U” shaped top will allow the wearer hand will be facilely accessed.

Patient Gown Redesigned
The original patient gown design is a loose fitting dress with an open back. It is an uncomfortable, insecure garment that leaves many wearers feeling exposed. Our goal was to redesign the gown, to not only provide a more comfortable and pleasing experience to the patient but, an easier use for the staff that will be assisting the patients wearing the gowns. When redesigning the gown, privacy was of foremost importance. Due to patient’s feeling exposed, we decided to close the back. We did know that in some cases the back must be open so, we created a wrap style robe design that can be worn both ways. The tie closure is strategically placed on the side for easy closure when worn both ways. There is also a strip of Velcro added to the inside to attach the two wrap pieces more securely. This allows for extra assurance that the gown will still provide full privacy to the wearer. In addition, a thin one-inch collar was added to bring a luxe aesthetic and more comfortable wear. This new gown is not only functional but, has a refreshed and updated look that will appeal to the wearers.
