Abstract |
Physical design features with therapeutic potential for residents with dementia are increasingly included in designing and renovating residential facilities. Yet, failure to link these design features to facilities' programming, operations, and service philosophies restrict therapeutic impact. This article discusses 4 primary areas of disconnect and the contributing causes from the perspectives of facility administrators and staff. Designers and providers working collaboratively can adopt a range of strategies to effectively link design with programming to benefit residents. |
