Excellence in Performing Arts Research recognizes accomplishment in student scholarship, and is published annually at the conclusion of the spring semester for the past academic year. Papers are based on scholarly excellence in each category (undergraduate and graduate), and these awards are open to all Kent State University students who present original research papers as a part of the Colloquium Series, and must relate to theatre, dance, and/or music.

Judging criteria for publication is as follows:

  • Originality and contribution to the field (50%)
  • Organization and structure (25%)
  • Clarity in writing (25%)


Published papers will have won one of the following awards:

  • The Performing Arts Library Colloquium Series’ Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research
  • The Performing Arts Library Colloquium Series’ Award for Excellence in Graduate Research
  • The Performing Arts Library Colloquium Series’ Honorable Mention, Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research
  • The Performing Arts Library Colloquium Series’ Honorable Mention, Award for Excellence in Graduate Research
