For patients receiving medical treatments in hospitals and other medical facilities, hospital gowns have lacked modesty, medical and personal accessibility, and comfort. We are designing a modernized hospital gown with our overall goal being to create a more comfortable and practical option for patients when being admitted for medical treatments. After surveying a large pool of both medical professionals and patients, we were able to determine the most common concerns with the current design of the hospital gown. Taking the feedback we received into account, we were able to create a design that fits the needs of both the doctors and nurses, patients, and the hospital’s day-to-day operations.
Current hospital gowns allow accessibility for doctors and nurses while compromising the privacy and comfort of the patients. Our new and improved design will not only be less complicated for patients to independently dress themselves, but plastic snap closures along seams will allow patients to remain fully covered while also providing easy accessibility for medical procedures without disturbing the use of medical technology. Overall, we hope to provide a better alternative to the unresolved weaknesses of current hospital gowns.
