Argument: Calm. Yelling. Conflict. Resolution. Peace. Volcanic Eruption: Calm. Tension. Explosion. Resolution. Peace. What do these two situations have in common? How can they be linked together? Do they have the same results? Do nature and man share a connection in the universe? This collection focuses on the relationship between man and nature; mainly on the similarities both face during times of conflict and strain. This collection showcases the cycle of the volcano from creation to eruption followed by rebirth. In a person's life, there are also instances which require rebirth from destruction; similar to an apology after an argument. One will be able to project his or her own life story into the collection. Each garment will conceptualize what happens just prior to creation; the disruption that happens in nature or in relationships before anything is born. Creation showcases the birth of a volcano or relationship followed by a piece that features eruption or conflict. The goal for this collection is to show the audience that the cycle of nature and the cycle of man are very similar in how they both form and rebuild after some form of destruction. This collection addresses the need for sustainability and use of unconventional materials such as clear straps, balloons, cording, ribbons, fabric scraps and paint. By taking materials that are going to be thrown away or not typically used for fabrication, I am able to create textiles and prints. Giving the scraps of fabric a sense of rebirth, thus, matching the overall theme. |
