This research discusses how women and the LGBTQ’s rights and discourse with the power structure,the United States, has evolved throughout the 20th and 21st century. There were numerous milestones accomplished during the 21st century, especially during the Obama era, such as legalization of gay marriage and right to free birth control and reproductive care for women is just to name a few. Once the Trump Administration had entered the White House on January 20, 2016, women and the gender minorities’ futures took a bleak turn. President Trump and radical social conservatives have been pushing to roll back their rights based on their religious ideologies and patriarchal hierarchy. It is evident that there is poor and unequal discourse between the power structure and its citizens. The research will explore the transition from the Obama era to the Trump era through organizational communication, feminist standpoint theory, and Michel Foucault’s postmodern criticism and how it can be improved if these steps were to be taken.

This research presentation discusses how women and the LGBTQ community's discourse with the United States has evolved throughout the 20th and 21st century. It is evident that there is an imbalance between these gender minorities and the power structure because their concerns and voices are not being heard. Throughout this presentation, we will explore how organizational communication, postmodern criticism, and feminist standpoint theory can help us understand as to not only how America has reached this point of regression during the transition from the Obama era to the Trump era, but also how changes can be made if these theories are implemented.
