Abstract

Class participation is the backbone of what defines a good student. Over the course of five weeks, we will observe ten different face-to-face, 75 minute long undergraduate level classes for a total of 80 class sessions. We will track the frequency, location, time, and type of student participation in each class. We hypothesize that the middle period of class time is when participation rates will peak, compared to the beginning or end of class time. Data collection is ongoing and will conclude in mid-March.

Modified Abstract

Class participation is the backbone of what defines a good student. Using a longitudinal naturalistic observation design, we will compare participation in a total of 80 class sessions to determine how participation in class fluctuates over time, both within and between class sessions.
